A very busy week at Del Canto Chambers

Qatar, United Kingdom and #Apple kept us occupied at Del Canto Chambers this week

At Del Canto Chambers, September has started with an interview in The Times regarding the #AppleTax case. Meanwhile, the firm continues to strengthen its position as the first Spanish office in Qatar. Along with Leon Fernando del Canto, our Managing Partner, we have met with several clients in Qatar who are interested in doing business in Europe and Latin America.

We have held meetings with the two most important companies in Media and Communications in Qatar, TV channel Al Jazeera, and media group Dar al-Sharq, in addition to Social Media Solutions for whom our partner Khalid Al Mohannadi advises on transmedia and social networks.

We also met with the management team of Al Ahli Hospital, part of Medicare, the most important company in the field of private health, with whom we have discussed various possibilities of collaboration in the field of neurosurgery.

Within the consumer sectors, our relationship with La Boutique Blanche has been in the spotlight, who we are associated with through MALNE Fashion Madrid. This will be presented as the new revelation brand at the prestigious MBFW Cibeles fashion show in two weeks; with Flat White Qatar, a new brand of Arabica coffee unique to the Gulf, whose founder is one of our partners, Nasser Al Naemi; and Corné Dynastie, a boutique chocolate shop owned by a Belgian customer and partner located at the renowned commercial and luxury residential area of the Pearl in Doha.

We also have offices in Doha located on the eighth floor of the well-known Office Tower Alfardan. We are counting on the support of Samar Abou Farah and Jerry Fries as well as our Arab partners at Al Khalifa Law Firm.

A recent meeting with Aljazeera Documentary Channel saw us negotiating the distribution rights of Elemental Triptych of Andalusia in the Gulf region. Del Canto Chambers are executive producers of this series of three documentaries by Andalusian filmmaker Jesus Armesto. The trilogy is in the final stage of production and the second film will be released soon, entitled “The keys of memory,” which delves into the identity, culture, traditions and language that shape the identity of the Andalusian people.

Regarding our Managing Partner Leon Fernando del Canto’s media presence this week, he was featured on the cover of the prestigious British legal weekly Solicitors Journal, where he analysed the UK’s role in the fight against tax fraud.

Del Canto was also quoted in daily newspaper, The Times, on the Apple / Ireland tax case, explaining that the European Commission acted “beyond its powers” and lacks “legal arguments”, predicting a defeat upon appeal.

Finally from Del Canto Chambers we have also reported on the growing number of applicants in Spain for the so-called living will and highlighted the good performance of the Spanish economy despite the absence of government for eight months now.

After this prolific week we enjoy sharing the results of our work this week and we invite you to read our weekly update next Friday.
